Unlike traditional slipcovers, Stretch Cover slipcovers contain a special expandable blend, allowing the material to stretch and recover where needed, "wrapping" the piece of furniture with a tighter, smoother fit. Stretch Cover's one piece patented design includes special seams, such as the "L" shape which wraps the back cushion area, and has an elastic edge all around, which keeps the slipcover in place.

In an attempt to preserve their modern sofa, after their two active young boys poured juice onto it, Ernesto Cohan and his wife went shopping for a slipcover that would fit their sofa and their decor. Their shopping experience was frustrating, and the pickings were slim. The slipcover they ultimately chose was difficult to put on, fit poorly, and detracted from the room's décor. With the concept to not to only be a "stain hider", but to bring style, fit, and fashion back into the home, the first Stretch and Slipcover was created.
Stretch and Cover, Inc. was established in 2002 for the purpose of producing, marketing and distributing patented expandable slipcover designs and has grown about 20% per year. In 2009 it was bought by Evercel, Inc., a multi-industry company (Public, OTC:EVRC) based in Hingham, Massachusetts whose goals are to continue growing Stretch and Cover and to provide increasing value to customers by working with mills all over the world to develop special fabrics and to further the potential of the patented expandable slipcover.
