Creating a Mood with Color
We all have our favorite colors. And, we all know what colors evoke what feelings and “moods” in ourselves. Maybe it’s the color red – like fire – which lights a spark underneath us. Or possibly blue – like the ocean – with it’s tranquility that helps us relax.
One of the easiest ways to change your environment is by changing the colors in the major elements around you. And, there’s no quicker way to do this than by using slipcovers. Slipcovers offer you the option to make a major change in the ambience of your home, yet for a minimal amount of cost and effort.
Now don’t be skittish about making a change like this. It’s a simple process:
- First, look around the room containing the furniture you want to slipcover with color. What is the current mood?
- Next, decide if you want to change the mood, or simply enhance it. For example, if you think the room would be “enhanced” with more green, cover that brown sofa with a green slipcover.
- Finally, choose a slipcover color that matches the mood.
When trying to pin down a “mood,” think of words that describe how you feel: happy, romantic, nostalgic, inspired, excited, relaxed, etc. With that mood in your mind, now think of all the colors that match that mood. For example, if the room makes you feel romantic, red is probably the first color that comes to mind. But, there are different shades of red. Plus, romance can also include pink, white (all the various shades), orange, and even purple! Remember: there is no “set in stone” color for a mood. It’s whatever you want it to be.
If you’re finding it a bit tough to come up with some slipcover color ideas, here are a few suggestions:
- Do you love nature? Slipcovers in any color of green, brown, or beige bring in nature.
- Do you have an attraction to water – whether the ocean or lake? Choose a slipcover in blue, and vary the intensity range, selecting from very light to very dark.
- Are you drawn to the Middle Eastern look? Red, orange, purple, or blue slipcovers will add the touch of spice to your room.
- Would you prefer the Far East? A slipcover in black, red, or white gives that traditional oriental feel.
- Does the Southwest dessert appeal to you? Tans, beiges, oranges, and reds which resemble the sand, sunrise, or sunsets are the slipcover selections for you.
- Do you need to feel light and airy? A slipcover in any of the shades of white will give you that crisp and clean sense that you get when outside.
- Could you go for a walk in the country? Mix and match slipcovers in white and blue or green and yellow.
- Looking to evoke a strong, masculine feel? Unleash the beast with a slipcover in either black faux leather, brown faux suede, or a multicolor animal print.
With slipcovers – and the tremendous array of options available – you can certainly find any color to fit any mood and create any atmosphere you want. Why not experiment a bit and see how a subtle change in color using a slipcover can have a dramatic effect.
