Just how long have you been looking at that furniture with the same fabric and colors (or even in the exact same position)? Do you walk past it and wonder how you can make a change…but a change that does not require you to do something drastic like get the furniture reupholstered? Then you need to begin thinking slipcovers.

Slipcovers are the only 100% guaranteed way to make a permanent/non-permanent change. You can change out a slipcover as often as you like without the worry of being “stuck” with a look you may not like.

The choices available with slipcovers in today’s decorating market are wide and deep. First, the variety of colors is certain to meet the needs of everyone thinking about using a slipcover. Next, these colors usually come in a variety of slipcover patterns – florals, solids, abstract, plaid, stripes, etc. Finally, slipcover styles and the type of furniture on which they can be used have expanded far beyond the traditional sofa, loveseat, and/or chair setting. There are day beds, dining room chairs, wing chairs, recliners, and the list goes on.

So, what can you do with a slipcover to give your room that updated and exciting new look?

  • Use a single slipcover color and pattern for your entire living room set: sofa, loveseat, and chair.
  • If you have a chair that already has a fabric in a color and pattern you like, put a coordinating slipcover on the sofa and loveseat.
  • In the dining room, cover the chairs in several colors using 2 or 3 of the most prevalent colors in your décor as your guideline.
  • For the man in the house who has that recliner he loves, but that no longer fits the look and feel of the room, choose either a faux leather or faux suede slipcover. (Boy…won’t he be surprised?)
  • Turn that comfy chair in your master bedroom into a luxurious place to read or relax with the feel of a velvet slipcover.
  • For that day bed or futon in the extra room, keep your guests wondering “how did they do that” by switching out the slipcover each time someone new arrives.
  • Eliminate your furniture worries in that high-traffic area in the family room or den where the kids seem to congregate and eat since a slipcover can be removed, washed, and put back on

If you haven’t investigated the endless possibilities with slipcovers recently, you really should. As mentioned above, there are now so many options to consider, along with a bevy of new and fresh ideas, you may even surprise yourself at what you can create on your own. Let your imagination run wild and put together a new “look and feel” for a room without worrying that it will have to last forever. After all, variety is the spice of life!
