Simple Steps for a Quick Change

You’re looking around a room in your house and, in all honesty, you’re just not happy with what you see. The paint is looking uninspiring, the furniture is looking less and less inviting, and the accessories have lost their sparkle.
How can you create a new and exciting space that won’t take a lot of time and cost a lot of money? By following the 3 simple steps below.

Step 1. Decide on your color palette.

The quickest way to do this is by using a picture, accessory, pillow, or other decorative item from which you get immense pleasure – both visually and from your inner being. Look at this object, and decide what you like about it. Is it a particular color or combination of colors? Is it the style with its clean contemporary lines, bold traditional colors, or soft casual feeling? Spend a few minutes really thinking about this object. If it appears that there’s a particular color you like, imagine your entire room revolving around that color. If it’s a feeling you want to capture, what color do you associate with this feeling – e.g., yellow (warmth), blue (airy), dark burgundy (traditional), etc. Once you have your selection, get painting!

Step 2. Update your furniture.

Put your checkbook away because you are not running out to buy new furniture. Instead, you’re going to select from the bevy of slipcovers available today. There are colors, patterns, and styles to fit every room setting. Start by determining the slipcover color based upon what you came up with in Step 1. Next, choose a slipcover pattern according to the feeling you want the room to have. Finally, choose a slipcover style based upon your furniture style. You may also want to come up with a few alternate slipcover choices that will allow you to change the room as often as your mood! (Won’t it be a welcome surprise for those people who visit you regularly to see different slipcovers on your furniture each time they visit?) Something to keep in mind: slipcovers aren’t only for sofas. You can also use them for chairs, loveseats, etc. Plus, you can mix/match the slipcover’s color, pattern, and style for a unique and creative look.

Step 3. Choose accessories.

Look around the house and find accessories that work with the new paint and slipcover(s) you’ve put in place. Let your slipcover be the guide as to what type of accessory will work. For example, if your slipcover style and pattern are contemporary, stick with objects that either have clean and simple lines or select a piece of abstract art. If your slipcovers are very traditional looking, use a floral arrangement placed atop a few books stacked on a table. The possibilities of combinations centered around your slipcover choice(s) are endless.
Isn’t it amazing to know that with just a few simple changes – including switching out your existing slipcovers or adding new ones - that you can give your room a whole new look.
