Using Variety to Keep Your Décor Interesting
There is so much you can do with your home décor these days. You can paint a wall to look like almost anything else. You can choose from an array of floorings. And, you can select from a bevy of accessories to suit any taste and personality. You can also choose slipcovers for all different types of furniture in your home.
While the “norm” in the past has been for slipcovers to only be available for a short list of sofa, loveseat, and chair types, that is certainly no longer the standard. You can now find slipcovers in a wide range of fabrics, colors, and patterns, as well as in styles to fit the largest collection of furniture possible.
Sofa, loveseat, and arm chair. Not long ago, the thought of even having the “core” furniture pieces in your arm be anything other than an exact match was considered a major “decorating” offense. But decorating trends have relaxed and the “mix and match” look is now widely accepted. This is where the slipcover steps in. The slipcover not only allows you to change one, two or all three pieces of furniture, but it also gives you the flexibility to use them in other rooms around the house. Perhaps you have a loveseat that doesn’t quite fit in your living room…but would be a “plus” in your bedroom. Simply move it and cover it with a slipcover. No worrying about matching fabric or styles because the slipcover has done all that for you. Just put it on and *presto* you’ve given a renewed appearance to what you already have.
Wing chair. Ah…the infamous wing chair…found throughout living rooms in America. You probably paid a pretty penny for this chair all those years ago and you hate to part with it (or the money you would spend buying a new one). But now you can use a slipcover to keep your beloved chair where it belongs: in your home.
Recliners. Now, if dad is grumbling because he thinks that you’re going to do something to his recliner, fear not. There are slipcovers that come in faux leather or faux suede – giving dad that “manly” look that his recliner needs to have. And, for those formal recliners which they now make, there are elegant slipcover choices in as many patterns and fabrics and colors as there are stars in the sky!
Dining room chairs. Say “bye bye” to recovering that chair seat over and over again. Forget about it. Just throw on a slipcover. And, if you want to show a little leg, select a slipcover that covers just the back and seat portion – leaving those gorgeous legs on display for all to see. (Of course, you can always choose a full dining chair cover that goes from head to toe...er…top to bottom!
Futons. Man’s inexpensive and portable bed has become the perfect addition to rooms of all types – kids, teenagers, guest rooms, basements, sun porches, etc. And while the use of futons has exploded, so have the choices for covers. No more flat material and blue denim. How about chenille, velvet, damask or canvas twill?
Day Bed. Take a bed, do some “unique” things with the headboard, and the next thing you know you have a day bed. Who would have thought it? So, you might as well treat it like a piece of sitting furniture and change it’s look with a slipcover as well. You can choose from a canvas twill or velvet slipcover.
Not only have the types of furniture changed over time, but the ways in which we can “enliven” that furniture is now endless. Using a slipcover is certainly a great way to give anything – even that favorite piece of furniture – a great new look!
